If you are planning on getting married at one of our parishes, here is the protocol and checklist:
Register as a parishioner. Weddings take place at a person's parish where they know the community and share in prayer. We require all couples to have at least one of the two people registered and participating for 6 months prior to the time of scheduling!
Contact us. Using the contacts to the left (or above if you are using a mobile device), contact us to schedule your wedding. We allow for weddings on Fridays (any time in the afternoon) and Saturdays (1:30 p.m.). If you need assistance with the annulment process (if the bride, groom, or both were married previously), we can discuss that with you.
Complete your initial marriage file paperwork. This includes a questionnaire and an inventory that you will fill out with Father Sean. To complete your file, copies of baptismal and confirmation certificates from the parish(es) where your received those sacraments and affadavits from witnesses to establish the freedom to marry. Parents are the preferred witnesses, but close relatives or friends of long standing also may be witnesses. Your witnesses must sign the affidavits in front of their own priest, deacon or clergy and have them stamped with the church’s seal and sent directly to our office. Provide a copy of the Declaration of Nullity (annulment) from the diocesan tribunal for any previous marriages.
Read through In Perfect Union, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee's marriage preparation book.
Meet with the teaching couple. You and your fiancé(e) will meet with a married couple to talk about inventory results, get advice, and discuss other relevant topics.
Attend your rehearsal. These are typically scheduled for the day immediately prior to your wedding day. The bridal party, parents, and anyone involved with your liturgy (outside of musicians) attends this rehearsal.
Celebrate the Sacrament of Matrimony. Enjoy your wedding day and the beginning of your lives united in sacramental marriage as husband and wife.
