The Divine Office (also called the Liturgy of the Hours) is an extension of the Mass prayed throughout the day. Priests and consecrated religious pray this daily as a part of their vocation, but lay people are invited to join them to incorporate prayer and Scripture throughout the day! Each day is split into major and minor Canonical Hours, and the prayers involve hymns, Psalms, readings, and intercessions.
The main hours that the laity often will join in prayer are Lauds (Morning Prayer), Vespers (Evening Prayer), and Compline (Night Prayer). Check out the resources to the left to learn more. If you are looking on a mobile device, you will have to open the menu (with the three-line button in the top left corner of your screen).
Join us for Sung Vespers (Evening Prayer) at St. Elizabeth every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. immediately followed by Benediction.
