“Music is integral to the Funeral rites. It allows the community to express convictions and feelings that word alone may fail to convey. It has the power to console and uplift the mourners and to strengthen the unity of the assembly in faith and love. The texts of the songs chosen for a particular celebration should express the paschal mystery of the Lord's suffering, death, and triumph over death and should be related to the readings from Scripture.” (Order of Christian Funerals)

The Roman Missal, 3rd Typical Edition and Order of Christian Funerals prescribe the Entrance Antiphon (“Eternal Rest Grant Unto Them, O Lord”), Communion Antiphon (“Let Your Perpetual Light Shine Upon Them” / “I Am the Good Shepherd”), Song of Farewell (“Saints of God, Come to His/Her Aid”), and Procession to the Place of Committal/Recessional (“May the Angels Lead You Into Paradise”/In Paradisum). These guidelines for the Funeral Mass will be strictly observed in accord with our parish mission.
 
Music Selections
Please select up to two hymns from the following list. The funeral musicians will insert them into liturgically appropriate places in the Mass. If you are unfamiliar with any of these selections, scroll below for links to recordings. Choosing more than two hymns from the following list will result in our musicians exercising judgement in selecting the two that align closest to the readings chosen. According to USCCB Guidelines, public funeral rites "strengthen our faith and hope, comfort those who mourn, and bury the bodily remains of the deceased with care befitting what was the Temple of the Holy Spirit." It is our policy that the liturgical music contained in such funeral rites is provided by the musicians of Downtown Kenosha Catholic (cantor/choir and organist). It is not the practice to replace our own musicians who serve here on a regular basis with others who are requested by a family. Please understand that this request will be discouraged.
