When you make a commitment to pledge financially to the Downtown Kenosha Catholic parishes of St. James the Apostle and St. Elizabeth, how are your dollars allocated?
As evidenced by the pie chart above, we have continued our commitment to repairing, restoring, and maintaining our current facilities — which includes 12 separate buildings spread across the campuses of two parishes and four cemeteries. We are at the point at which projects that were once put off for “deferred maintenance” are now needing to be addressed. Buildings are very costly to maintain and repair, just as any homeowner would expect, as well, at their own residence.
The cemeteries continue to be a large expenditure as there are not always enough burials to cover the costs of operating them; furthermore, Old St. Mark Cemetery is completely full and generates no revenue, but we are required to maintain it and are responsible for the associated costs.
All parishes are assessed 5% of their earnings to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee annually. Any funds that are donated to DTKC in a restricted capacity (towards a special project, initiative, or budget line item) are exempt from the Archdiocesan assessment. If you are considering a special donation to one of the upcoming building projects, Poor & Needy Fund, Fine Arts Series, formation, etc., make sure you specify your intentions in the memo line (if paying by check) or in the “notes” section (if paying electronically).
If you have any questions relating to financial stewardship & giving, please contact Michael Benner in the DTKC office ([email protected] / 262-657-1156, ext. 2).
