Praying the Office has a bit of a learning curve. Much like other Catholic communal prayers, there is a "call and response" type format. This is antiphonal style. To pray, a book called a breviary is often used. Thankfully, with modern technology, you can access a breviary through a mobile device as well.
To pray communally, the group is divided into two groups. For much of the prayers, the priest is leading, and the whole community is responding. When you begin the Psalmody, each "paragraph" is read by alternating sides (Side 1 has the priest on it, Side 2 follows). The Gospel Canticle is read together by all. Though it seems confusing, you can get some great practice by joining us for prayer Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.
